{"id":70214,"date":"2025-07-10T12:16:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T12:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70214"},"modified":"2025-07-10T12:16:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T12:16:14","slug":"reps-panel-summons-mutfwang-lalong-others-over-plateau-security-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/10\/reps-panel-summons-mutfwang-lalong-others-over-plateau-security-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Reps Panel Summons Mutfwang, Lalong, Others Over Plateau Security Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Security Challenges in Plateau State has summoned Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Senator Simon Lalong, former governor and current representative of Plateau South and other key stakeholders to a high-level security summit aimed at addressing the ongoing violence in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Also invited to the summit are former governors Jonah Jang and Joshua Dariye; federal and state lawmakers; local government chairmen; traditional and religious leaders; and heads of security and paramilitary agencies including the Army, Police, DSS, NSCDC, and Operation Safe Haven.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, civil society organisations, youth advocates, and influential groups such as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama\u2019atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Miyetti Allah, and the Plateau Initiative for the Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN), will participate. International bodies such as the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), and the African Union\u2019s Peace and Security Division are also expected to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists, Committee Chairman Hon. Wale Hammed said the summit is intended to generate &#8220;actionable recommendations and ideas to halt the cycle of killings,&#8221; particularly in the violence-prone areas of Bokkos, Bassa, and Mangu Local Government Areas.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the committee is calling for memoranda from stakeholders to ensure the summit fosters inclusive dialogue and fact-finding, ultimately shaping effective policy and intervention strategies.<\/p>\n<p>Hammed further noted that, under Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution, the House will not only host the conference but also initiate a full investigation into the recent surge in violence.<\/p>\n<p>This includes attacks on travellers and indigenous residents by non-state actors; a pattern that has plagued the region since 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to develop responsive and proactive measures to safeguard lives and property,\u201d Hammed emphasized. \u201cThis process is focused on finding lasting solutions, not exacerbating communal tensions.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere Immaculata The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Security Challenges in Plateau State has summoned Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Senator Simon Lalong, former governor and current representative of Plateau South and other key stakeholders to a high-level security summit aimed at addressing the ongoing violence in the state.
