Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, has no connection to the ongoing legal matter and should not be dragged into what is essentially a civil dispute.

NANS’ position follows widespread online speculation suggesting Speaker Abbas was behind the arrest of individuals over defamatory content allegedly tied to a land dispute in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The claims, which quickly spread across social media platforms, sparked public backlash and political commentary.

However, NANS denounced the narrative as misleading and dangerous.

According to the association’s internal fact-finding investigation, there is no evidence linking Speaker Abbas or any member of his family to the case.

“It is unfortunate that some persons have attempted to politicise a legal matter that should be allowed to follow due process.

“The Speaker has no involvement in the issue, and we must be careful not to turn civil court cases into political weapons,” the statement quoted NANS President, Usman Adamu Nagwaza, as saying.

NANS urged the public to allow the law to take its course without interference, bias, or misinformation.

The association also emphasized the importance of responsible online behavior, noting that unfounded allegations can harm reputations and erode trust in democratic institutions.

It further warned against the misuse of social media to falsely implicate public officials, stressing that such actions damage the credibility of public discourse and undermine justice.

As online discussions around the issue intensify, NANS called on the media, civil society organizations, and citizens to approach the matter with objectivity and caution.

It reminded the public that free speech must not be confused with defamation.

Reiterating its commitment to justice, fairness, and the rule of law, NANS said its intervention was aimed at calming tensions, dispelling misinformation, and redirecting public focus toward truth and civic responsibility.

By Olokuta Rofiat The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has condemned the alleged politicisation of a defamation case that has resulted in a series of arrests linked to social media activity.
