{"id":70175,"date":"2025-07-10T07:58:45","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T07:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70175"},"modified":"2025-07-10T07:58:45","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T07:58:45","slug":"wafcon-2024-well-fight-to-beat-super-falcons-says-botswana-coach-malete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/10\/wafcon-2024-well-fight-to-beat-super-falcons-says-botswana-coach-malete\/","title":{"rendered":"WAFCON 2024: We\u2019ll Fight to Beat Super Falcons, Says Botswana Coach Malete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Fakande Oluwamayowa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Botswana head coach, Alex Malete, has vowed that his team will give their all to defeat Nigeria\u2019s Super Falcons in their crucial Group B clash at the 2024 Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).<\/p>\n<p>The match is scheduled for today at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.<\/p>\n<p>Following a disappointing loss to Algeria in their opening game, the Mares must avoid defeat to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.<\/p>\n<p>Another loss would see them exit the tournament in the group stage, just as they did during their WAFCON debut in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Super Falcons head into the encounter with confidence after their dominant 3-0 victory over Tunisia on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The nine-time African champions are strong favourites to win the tie.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of the game, Coach Malete expressed optimism despite the odds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s game against Nigeria is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss,\u201d Malete said during a press conference in Casablanca. \u201cWe didn\u2019t start well against Algeria.
