{"id":70025,"date":"2025-07-08T22:09:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T22:09:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=70025"},"modified":"2025-07-08T22:09:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T22:09:18","slug":"fct-teachers-call-off-three-month-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/08\/fct-teachers-call-off-three-month-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Teachers Call Off Three-Month Strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory have suspended their strike, which began on March 24, 2025, and will return to classrooms on Wednesday, July 9.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), FCT chapter, announced the decision in a communiqu\u00e9 issued on July 4 after its State Wing Executive Council (SWEC), meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The strike was over unpaid salary arrears and the delayed implementation of the new minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension followed a stakeholders\u2019 meeting convened by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who pledged to release N16 billion and allocate 10% of the Area Councils\u2019 internally generated revenue to offset teachers\u2019 outstanding payments.<\/p>\n<p>The NUT said the government&#8217;s commitment, along with the payment of five months\u2019 arrears into teachers&#8217; accounts by July 8, led to the strike&#8217;s suspension.<\/p>\n<p>The union thanked stakeholders who supported their cause and promised to continue advocating for full settlement of all entitlements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola Primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory have suspended their strike, which began on March 24, 2025, and will return to classrooms on Wednesday, July 9.
