{"id":69849,"date":"2025-07-07T10:15:59","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T10:15:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=69849"},"modified":"2025-07-07T10:15:59","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T10:15:59","slug":"nlc-threatens-nationwide-protest-over-soaring-hardship-insecurity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/07\/nlc-threatens-nationwide-protest-over-soaring-hardship-insecurity\/","title":{"rendered":"NLC Threatens Nationwide Protest Over Soaring Hardship, Insecurity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has threatened to mobilize a nationwide protest over worsening poverty, skyrocketing cost of living, and rising insecurity across the country.<\/p>\n<p>In a communiqu\u00e9 signed by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the union decried what it described as failed governance and a collapsing economy that continues to push Nigerian workers and citizens into deeper hardship.<\/p>\n<p>The NLC claimed that nearly 700,000 lives have been lost in the past year alone due to insecurity, while farmers in many regions can no longer access their lands due to violence, raising fears of a looming famine.<\/p>\n<p>Calling on the federal government to declare a state of emergency on security, the union demanded a decisive crackdown on armed herders and bandits, warning that continued inaction could lead to mass resistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigerians are suffocating under the weight of insecurity and economic despair.
