{"id":69657,"date":"2025-07-04T10:47:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T10:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=69657"},"modified":"2025-07-04T10:47:03","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T10:47:03","slug":"abuja-court-remands-four-for-allegedly-assaulting-lawyer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/04\/abuja-court-remands-four-for-allegedly-assaulting-lawyer\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja Court Remands Four for Allegedly Assaulting Lawyer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court in Wuse, Abuja, has ordered the remand of four individuals at a correctional facility for allegedly assaulting a lawyer, Mr. Ajiki John, while he was carrying out his professional duties.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna gave the remand order and adjourned the matter to July 7, 2025, for a ruling on the defendants\u2019 bail application, filed by their counsels, Mr. E.O. Chur and Mr. O.J. Agus.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants; Jacob Fidelis, Sharon Chidera, Itoro Robert, and William Raymond were arraigned by the police on charges of joint criminal act, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, criminal intimidation, mischief, and defamation. They all pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecution counsel, Donatus Abah, told the court that the victim, Mr. John, had reported the incident to the FCT Commissioner of Police on June 17.<\/p>\n<p>Abah alleged that while Mr. John was at Iyemi Plaza in Gudu, Abuja, to serve legal documents, the defendants suddenly attacked him, physically assaulted him, and flung him to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>He further stated that they destroyed the lawyer\u2019s phone and threatened to kill him.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor added that the accused falsely labeled Mr. John as a kidnapper and fake lawyer in public, ignoring his pleas and identification until police officers intervened and rescued him.<\/p>\n<p>While defence counsel applied for bail following the not-guilty pleas, the prosecution opposed the request, arguing against their release at this stage of the proceedings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu A Chief Magistrates\u2019 Court in Wuse, Abuja, has ordered the remand of four individuals at a correctional facility for allegedly assaulting a lawyer, Mr. Ajiki John, while he was carrying out his professional duties.
