The Labour Party has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, demanding his immediate resignation over his association with a newly formed political coalition.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Wednesday by the party\u2019s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party dissociated itself from the coalition, describing its members as \u201cpower mongers\u201d driven by personal ambition rather than genuine national transformation.<\/p>\n

It also accused them of being recycled political actors responsible for Nigeria\u2019s prolonged socio-economic woes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe so-called \u2018New Nigeria\u2019 being peddled by this group is a farce. It cannot emerge from an alliance of desperate, old, and frustrated politicians clinging to relevance,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

The party further alleged that Obi had been holding secret meetings with Labour Party members to persuade them to defect.<\/p>\n

While some members reportedly resisted, the party warned that any member found aligning with the coalition must resign within 48 hours or face expulsion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not tolerate individuals who stand with Labour Party by day and collude with the coalition by night.<\/p>\n

“This party is not a halfway house for political opportunists,\u201d Ifoh said.<\/p>\n

Reaffirming its commitment to a youth-driven political revolution, the party noted that nearly 70% of Nigeria\u2019s population is made up of young people who have become disillusioned with traditional politics.<\/p>\n

It maintained that the Labour Party remains the authentic platform for delivering real change.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Labour Party remains the true vessel for change in Nigeria. We will stay focused, loyal, and united in our mission to restore hope to the Nigerian people,\u201d Ifoh declared.<\/p>\n

Party members were urged to uphold the party\u2019s principles and protect its structures ahead of future elections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
