{"id":69589,"date":"2025-07-03T14:37:15","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T14:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=69589"},"modified":"2025-07-03T14:37:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T14:37:15","slug":"court-jails-woman-five-years-for-human-trafficking-in-anambra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/03\/court-jails-woman-five-years-for-human-trafficking-in-anambra\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Jails Woman Five Years for Human Trafficking in Anambra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has sentenced a 44-year-old woman, Goodness Daniel, to five years\u2019 imprisonment with an option of a \u20a62 million fine for human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>The judgment, delivered by Justice Peace Otti of the Awka Judicial Division on June 27, 2025, found Daniel guilty of trafficking in persons-specifically the buying and selling of human beings, contrary to Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition), Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>She was prosecuted by the Anambra State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents obtained by our correspondent, the court also ordered Daniel to pay \u20a62.6 million in restitution to the victim, who served as a prosecution witness during the trial.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel was first arraigned on July 9, 2024, on charges related to human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, NAPTIP described the conviction as a significant milestone in its ongoing fight against human trafficking and a step toward upholding the rights and dignity of victims across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo A High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has sentenced a 44-year-old woman, Goodness Daniel, to five years\u2019 imprisonment with an option of a \u20a62 million fine for human trafficking.
