{"id":69535,"date":"2025-07-02T16:16:25","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T16:16:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=69535"},"modified":"2025-07-02T16:16:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T16:16:25","slug":"liverpools-quansah-joins-bayer-leverkusen-in-record-e40m-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/07\/02\/liverpools-quansah-joins-bayer-leverkusen-in-record-e40m-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool\u2019s Quansah Joins Bayer Leverkusen in Record \u20ac40m Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bayer Leverkusen have signed English defender Jarell Quansah from Liverpool in a deal worth up to \u20ac40 million, including \u20ac10 million in add-ons, according to British and German media reports.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old centre-back becomes Leverkusen\u2019s most expensive signing, surpassing the \u20ac32 million paid for Kerem Demirbay in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The contract reportedly includes a \u20ac60 million buy-back clause, which Liverpool can activate from the summer of 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very happy to be able to sign Jarell Quansah, one of the most promising English central defenders,\u201d said Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen\u2019s managing director of sport. \u201cHe made a very impressive contribution to a Liverpool defence full of world-class players. Jarell will bring extra dynamism, tempo and strength to our backline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quansah, who joined Liverpool\u2019s academy at age five, made his senior debut in 2023 and has since made 58 appearances.<\/p>\n<p>He won the League Cup twice (2022 and 2024) and was part of the Reds\u2019 Premier League-winning squad last season.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his potential, Quansah often played behind first-choice centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konat\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>He now arrives in Germany to fill the void left by former Leverkusen captain Jonathan Tah, who recently departed the club.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the move, Quansah said: \u201cThe ambitious targets here were clearly explained to me during negotiations.
