{"id":69325,"date":"2025-06-30T09:20:32","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T09:20:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=69325"},"modified":"2025-06-30T09:20:32","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T09:20:32","slug":"lagos-socialite-sues-igp-others-over-alleged-harassment-demands-%e2%82%a650m-damages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/30\/lagos-socialite-sues-igp-others-over-alleged-harassment-demands-%e2%82%a650m-damages\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos Socialite Sues IGP, Others Over Alleged Harassment, Demands \u20a650m Damages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lagos socialite, Gail Fajembola, has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking to restrain the Nigeria Police and others from allegedly harassing her over a property dispute.<\/p>\n<p>In the suit, Fajembola is asking the court to stop the Inspector-General of Police, Olutoy Estate Development &amp; Services Ltd, and four others from arresting or intimidating her regarding Flat K9-2, Ocean Parade Towers, Banana Island, Ikoyi.<\/p>\n<p>Represented by Akin Apara of BA Law LLP, Fajembola claims that the police are being used to unlawfully coerce her into evicting a lawful tenant or surrendering possession of the property to Olutoy Estate, under the pretense of a criminal investigation into what she insists is a civil matter.<\/p>\n<p>Other respondents named in the suit include the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (Zone 2), the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Ogbonna Nweke, and Tunde Ayeni.<\/p>\n<p>Fajembola is asking the court to declare that any attempt by the police to arrest or detain her in connection with the private dispute is unconstitutional and a violation of her rights to dignity, liberty, and freedom of movement, as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>She is seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the police and the estate firm from further interference, as well as \u20a650 million in damages for alleged harassment and abuse of power.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, rather than follow lawful eviction procedures, Nweke and Ayeni allegedly used police summons to pressure her, her agent, and the tenant\u2019s representatives to vacate the apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Fajembola also denied media reports claiming she had been arrested or detained, and clarified that she has never claimed ownership of the apartment nor attempted to sell it, reiterating her neutral stance in the ongoing dispute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo Lagos socialite, Gail Fajembola, has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking to restrain the Nigeria Police and others from allegedly harassing her over a property dispute.
