{"id":69265,"date":"2025-06-29T05:53:55","date_gmt":"2025-06-29T05:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=69265"},"modified":"2025-06-29T05:53:55","modified_gmt":"2025-06-29T05:53:55","slug":"northern-elders-to-tinubu-north-under-siege-declare-emergency-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/29\/northern-elders-to-tinubu-north-under-siege-declare-emergency-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Elders to Tinubu: North Under Siege, Declare Emergency Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Oso Abidemi\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency in northern Nigeria following the deadly ambush that claimed over 20 soldiers and civilians in Bangi, Niger State.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Prof. Abubakar Jiddere, the NEF described the attack as a direct declaration of war on the Nigerian state and said northern Nigeria is bleeding under relentless terrorist assaults.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 20 uniformed defenders of the nation were slaughtered like animals,\u201d the NEF said. \u201cThis is not just insecurity; it\u2019s an unrelenting campaign of terror, mass murder, and state failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Forum criticized the government\u2019s failure to protect lives and property, lamenting that entire communities across Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Borno are under attack while perpetrators roam freely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe North is drowning in blood, and the federal government appears either powerless or absent,\u201d Jiddere stated. \u201cWe will no longer accept condolences or empty promises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NEF demanded aggressive, coordinated military and intelligence operations to eliminate terrorists and criminal elements.<\/p>\n<p>They warned that continued federal inaction would provoke public resistance and further erode the government\u2019s legitimacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe blood of Northern Nigerians is not cheap,\u201d the statement read. \u201cEnough is enough.
