{"id":69121,"date":"2025-06-26T11:40:01","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T11:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=69121"},"modified":"2025-06-26T11:40:01","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T11:40:01","slug":"obi-slams-fct-administration-over-prolonged-teachers-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/26\/obi-slams-fct-administration-over-prolonged-teachers-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Obi Slams FCT Administration Over Prolonged Teachers&#8217; Strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Administration over the continued teachers\u2019 strike in Abuja, which has left public school children at home for three months.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement posted on his X handle on Thursday, Obi described education as the most vital component of human development, stressing that national progress is deeply tied to the education of its citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a known and verifiable study that the more educated a nation is, the more developed it is,\u201d Obi wrote. \u201cConsequently, the most important investment and policy a nation requires is educating its people, especially children, to secure their future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obi expressed concern that, despite expectations that the strike would be resolved quickly given its occurrence in the nation&#8217;s capital, students remain at home while the government focuses on infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the strike began, we all thought, \u2018This is Abuja; it will only last for a day or two.\u2019 But here we are, three months later, our children are still at home and we are busy renovating the infrastructure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that continued neglect of education could have dire consequences for the country\u2019s economy and security, urging leaders to realign their priorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe foundation of societal development is an educated citizenry, not physical infrastructure,\u201d he stated. \u201cTrue development is about building people. It is about educating the next generation. We must prioritise investment in human capital, especially in basic education, healthcare, and pulling people out of poverty. That is how nations grow.
