At a flag-off ceremony in Abuja, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, announced this initiative and emphasised how it would promote reformation and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
A significant step in this endeavor is the allocation of N585 million by the Federal Government, sourced from corporate bodies and philanthropists, specifically earmarked for settling fines and facilitating the release of the identified inmates nationwide. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of decongesting custodial centers to pave the way for effective rehabilitation efforts.<\/p>\n
During the ceremony, the minister underscored that the initiative is aimed at inmates with fines and compensation not exceeding N1 million. This strategic approach aligns with the government’s commitment to international human rights standards and effective correctional practices, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for transformative reforms.<\/p>\n
