The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently rejected the results of the state governorship election held on November 11, 2023, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n
The party, citing a myriad of irregularities such as falsification of results, bribery, over-voting, and substantial noncompliance with electoral laws, contends that the announced outcome cannot be considered legitimate.<\/p>\n
Rt. Hon. George Daika, the Secretary of the Kogi State PDP, conveyed these concerns during a press conference held in Abuja on Saturday. Daika highlighted a series of unlawful acts that, in his view, marred the entire gubernatorial election, rendering it “unlawful, illegal, and illegitimate.”<\/p>\n
Expressing pre-election apprehensions, Daika revealed that the PDP had raised concerns about alleged plots by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to rig the election. He disclosed claims of preloaded Biometric Verification and Authentication Systems (BVAS) being deployed to specific areas and the distribution of NYSC and Police uniforms to civilians for potential election rigging.<\/p>\n
The Secretary lamented the validation of their fears, citing instances where results of yet-to-be-held elections were circulating publicly before polling units opened. Furthermore, he accused some Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) agents of possessing pre-written results for elections that had not taken place.<\/p>\n
