{"id":68813,"date":"2025-06-23T14:55:42","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T14:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68813"},"modified":"2025-06-23T14:55:42","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T14:55:42","slug":"ibb-university-students-protest-killing-of-colleague-in-off-campus-robbery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/23\/ibb-university-students-protest-killing-of-colleague-in-off-campus-robbery\/","title":{"rendered":"IBB University Students Protest Killing of Colleague in Off-Campus Robbery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, staged a protest on Monday following the killing of a 200-level student during a robbery at an off-campus lodge near the university gate.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitnesses said the student, who had just returned for the new academic session on Sunday, was fatally stabbed by armed robbers who stormed the lodge in the early hours.<\/p>\n<p>The attackers reportedly carted away valuables from multiple students without resistance from any security personnel.<\/p>\n<p>Angered by what they called persistent security failures, hundreds of students blocked roads and lit fires in front of the university gate to demand urgent intervention.<\/p>\n<p>Many said previous complaints about robberies and assaults, especially those targeting female students, had gone unaddressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the first time. We\u2019ve been living in fear. Now someone has died,\u201d a protester said.<\/p>\n<p>The students vowed not to back down until concrete steps are taken by both the school and government to secure their hostels and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to reach the university\u2019s management were unsuccessful as of press time.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the incident, Niger State Police PRO, SP Abiodun Wasiu, said the victim died from a stab wound to the neck.<\/p>\n<p>He added that investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal Students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, staged a protest on Monday following the killing of a 200-level student during a robbery at an off-campus lodge near the university gate.
