{"id":68765,"date":"2025-06-23T05:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T05:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68765"},"modified":"2025-06-23T05:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T05:54:09","slug":"foreign-investors-nigerians-in-diaspora-eye-abuja-as-investment-hub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/23\/foreign-investors-nigerians-in-diaspora-eye-abuja-as-investment-hub\/","title":{"rendered":"Foreign Investors, Nigerians in Diaspora Eye Abuja as Investment Hub\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adewunmi Oluwaseun\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Foreign investors and Nigerians in the diaspora have expressed strong interest in investing in Nigeria\u2019s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as the city continues to position itself as a top investment destination.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the inaugural Abuja Investment Summit held in London, Chairman of the British African Business Alliance Limited, David Smith, revealed that the group plans to inject approximately $3.5 billion into 15 key projects across the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>Smith, who has spent 17 years championing African investment, praised Abuja&#8217;s economic potential and emphasized the Alliance\u2019s readiness to partner with local stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to connecting with delegates. We\u2019re excited about injecting $3.5 billion into about 15 projects in Abuja,\u201d Smith stated.<\/p>\n<p>Representing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, at the summit, the Group Managing Director and CEO of Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL), Ambassador Maureen Tamuno, declared that \u201cAbuja is open for business, and now is the time to engage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She commended Minister Wike for his leadership and efforts in transforming the FCT into a world-class city.<\/p>\n<p>The summit, themed \u201cInvestment Opportunities in Africa\u2019s Gateway; Nigeria,\u201d presented Abuja not just as the nation\u2019s political capital but as a rising economic powerhouse.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. Abiodun Akanbi, AICL\u2019s Chief Investment Officer, the city offers enormous potential across sectors including technology, real estate, entertainment, agribusiness, tourism, and infrastructure. \u201cAbuja is where capital meets purpose,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>In her goodwill message, the Chairman\/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, encouraged Nigerians abroad to invest in their homeland, noting that diaspora engagement is critical to Nigeria\u2019s economic transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking at the event, Ambassador Mercy Haruna Adeoye, who represented the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Mohamed Maidugu, emphasized Nigeria\u2019s openness to global partnerships, citing the country\u2019s vast untapped potential and readiness for sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>Other key speakers included Ciaran McSharry, CEO of Jamboo App, a digital banking platform, who expressed optimism about Nigeria\u2019s investment environment, and Peter Alettor, Executive Vice Chairman of Apel, who urged global investors to seize the moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best time to invest in Nigeria is now.
