During a two-day post-inauguration retreat for members of the House Committee on Defence, jointly organized by the Committee and the National Defence College in Abuja, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen declared security as one of the priority areas highlighted in the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House. He stressed the collective responsibility to ensure that the armed forces and police are well-equipped and adequately funded to tackle the multiple security challenges facing Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Abbas highlighted the critical role of legislators in establishing necessary legislative frameworks that support the national security architecture through robust legislations addressing the root causes of security challenges. He reiterated the commitment of the 10th House to support security agencies through adequate funding, provision of modern equipment, training, and improving welfare packages for security personnel.<\/p>\n
Committee Chairman Babajimi Benson expressed concern about the current security challenges in Nigeria and assured Nigerians that the committee is determined to carry out legislative functions effectively, efficiently, and in a manner that ensures the safety of lives and property.
