{"id":68261,"date":"2025-06-17T05:25:47","date_gmt":"2025-06-17T05:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68261"},"modified":"2025-06-17T05:25:47","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T05:25:47","slug":"nigeria-olympic-committee-begins-construction-of-multi-facility-secretariat-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/17\/nigeria-olympic-committee-begins-construction-of-multi-facility-secretariat-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Olympic Committee Begins Construction of Multi-Facility Secretariat in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), has commenced the construction of a permanent, multi-purpose secretariat in Abuja, a major step toward strengthening sports administration and athlete development in the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to NOC Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, the facility is being built on a five-hectare site allocated by the Federal Government in the Aviation Village area of the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n<p>The groundbreaking ceremony, which marked the official unveiling of the project site, was conducted by the NOC leadership in collaboration with senior officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC).<\/p>\n<p>Leading the delegation was NOC President, Habu Gumel, alongside members of the Committee\u2019s Executive and Governing Boards.<\/p>\n<p>Also in attendance were the Chairman of the NSC, Shehu Dikko, and Director-General, Bukola Olapade, whose presence underscored the project&#8217;s national significance.<\/p>\n<p>Gumel explained that the secretariat will be a five-storey structure built in phases and designed not only to serve as the NOC\u2019s administrative headquarters but also to house world-class training facilities for a variety of sports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis secretariat is envisioned to be more than just office space,\u201d Gumel stated. \u201cIt will function as a central hub to enhance our operational effectiveness while offering modern training infrastructure to support Olympic-affiliated sports federations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The facility will include training grounds, seminar and workshop areas, and specialised spaces for athlete development.<\/p>\n<p>The NOC says this comprehensive setup is aimed at improving sports performance, enhancing technical capacity, and positioning Nigerian athletes for greater success on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p>Gumel further stressed that the project is a long-term investment in Nigeria\u2019s sporting future, reaffirming the NOC\u2019s commitment to nurturing elite athletes and professionals in the sports sector.<\/p>\n<p>Once completed, the secretariat is expected to streamline Olympic-related operations and stand as a landmark of Nigeria\u2019s dedication to sporting excellence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), has commenced the construction of a permanent, multi-purpose secretariat in Abuja, a major step toward strengthening sports administration and athlete development in the country.
