{"id":68184,"date":"2025-06-16T09:34:29","date_gmt":"2025-06-16T09:34:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68184"},"modified":"2025-06-16T09:34:29","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T09:34:29","slug":"one-way-suv-driver-kills-tricyclist-flees-lastma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/16\/one-way-suv-driver-kills-tricyclist-flees-lastma\/","title":{"rendered":"One-Way SUV Driver Kills Tricyclist, Flees -LASTMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Omoniyi David<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has confirmed the death of a tricycle operator following a fatal crash involving a one-way-driving SUV along the Badagry Expressway.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Sunday, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the accident occurred at Origan, Oko-Afo, and involved a commercial tricycle (MUS 716 QM), and a Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC SUV with custom plate \u201cOSUNFNKE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary investigations revealed that the SUV driver was travelling against traffic from Ile-Epo towards Oko-Afo when he collided head-on with the oncoming tricycle, fatally injuring the operator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SUV driver fled the scene after abandoning both his vehicle and the victim\u2019s body,\u201d Bakare-Oki said in a statement signed by LASTMA spokesperson, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo.<\/p>\n<p>Police from Morogbo Division have taken over the case, while the Federal Road Safety Corps evacuated the deceased to the Badagry General Hospital mortuary.<\/p>\n<p>Bakare-Oki condemned the act, calling it a tragic reminder of the dangers of traffic lawlessness.<\/p>\n<p>He urged motorists to obey road regulations, stressing that one life lost is one too many.<\/p>\n<p>He extended condolences to the deceased\u2019s family and reiterated LASTMA\u2019s commitment to safer roads through enforcement and public education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Omoniyi David The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has confirmed the death of a tricycle operator following a fatal crash involving a one-way-driving SUV along the Badagry Expressway.
