{"id":68059,"date":"2025-06-14T22:11:24","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T22:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68059"},"modified":"2025-06-14T22:11:24","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T22:11:24","slug":"gombe-perm-sec-four-others-electrocuted-in-power-surge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/14\/gombe-perm-sec-four-others-electrocuted-in-power-surge\/","title":{"rendered":"Gombe Perm Sec, Four Others Electrocuted in Power Surge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An early morning electrical surge in the Tudun-Wadan Pantami area of Gombe metropolis claimed the lives of five people and injured 13 others on Saturday, according to the Gombe State Police Command.<\/p>\n<p>Among the deceased was the Permanent Secretary for Special Duties and Regional Coordination, Abdullahi Kulani.<\/p>\n<p>The tragic incident, which occurred just after dawn, was reportedly triggered by a high-voltage surge from a nearby transformer, catching residents unaware.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said officers from the Low-Cost Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur officers promptly secured the area and evacuated victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, five persons lost their lives, while thirteen others sustained varying degrees of injuries,\u201d Abdullahi said.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased have been deposited in three different morgues: three bodies at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe; one at the State Specialist Hospital; and another at Bolari Filin Kwallo Mortuary.<\/p>\n<p>The injured are currently receiving treatment at various health facilities across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, described the incident as \u201cdeeply saddening\u201d and extended condolences to the bereaved families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe express our heartfelt sympathy to those who have lost loved ones and wish the injured a speedy recovery,\u201d he said, assuring the public of a thorough investigation into the cause of the power surge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are determined to uncover the exact circumstances and ensure accountability where necessary,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of Tudun-Wadan Pantami remain in shock. One eyewitness, who requested anonymity, described the incident as \u201cterrifying,\u201d saying many victims were electrocuted inside their homes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never seen anything like it. People were shouting and running.
