{"id":68053,"date":"2025-06-14T22:04:16","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T22:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68053"},"modified":"2025-06-14T22:04:16","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T22:04:16","slug":"first-lady-empowers-displaced-families-with-homes-farmland-in-nasarawa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/14\/first-lady-empowers-displaced-families-with-homes-farmland-in-nasarawa\/","title":{"rendered":"First Lady Empowers Displaced Families with Homes, Farmland in Nasarawa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned the Renewed Hope Resettlement City in Yar-Kade, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, as part of President Bola Tinubu\u2019s agenda to provide displaced Nigerians with a fresh start.<\/p>\n<p>The project, developed by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), now accommodates 40 households, comprising 239 individuals; including refugees from Cameroon and Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>The fully serviced modern settlement features solar lighting, a school, a hospital, a mosque, a church, a police post, greenhouses, and vocational training centres.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the inauguration, the First Lady said the initiative reflects the commitment of the Renewed Hope Agenda to go beyond shelter and deliver total empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not just resettlement, but empowerment,\u201d she stated. \u201cWe have secured 100 hectares of farmland for the residents so they can farm, feed themselves, and earn a living. Our work does not end here; skills acquisition and sustainable empowerment are key.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Tinubu also donated bags of rice, clothing, and other essential items to the beneficiaries, urging them to live peacefully with their host community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a new dawn,\u201d she said. \u201cBe law-abiding and contribute positively to your new environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Governor Abdullahi Sule described the project as \u201ca beacon of hope\u201d and commended President Tinubu\u2019s administration for restoring security and prioritizing the welfare of displaced persons.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the First Lady\u2019s presence underscored the federal government\u2019s commitment to restoring dignity and hope to displaced populations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are not just giving them shelter, you are giving them dignity,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, also announced a \u20a6200,000 business grant for each household to support their path toward economic independence.<\/p>\n<p>Expressing gratitude on behalf of the residents, Geoffrey Bitrus said, \u201cWith this new home, we can now look forward to the future with renewed hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Notable dignitaries at the event included the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd); Senator Bashir Lado; and the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohammed Malick Fall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola Nigeria\u2019s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned the Renewed Hope Resettlement City in Yar-Kade, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, as part of President Bola Tinubu\u2019s agenda to provide displaced Nigerians with a fresh start.
