{"id":68034,"date":"2025-06-14T10:10:14","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T10:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68034"},"modified":"2025-06-14T10:10:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T10:10:14","slug":"fake-news-presidency-denies-awarding-aisha-yesufu-national-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/14\/fake-news-presidency-denies-awarding-aisha-yesufu-national-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Fake News: Presidency Denies Awarding Aisha Yesufu National Honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Presidency has debunked a viral list circulating on social media that falsely claims human rights activist Aisha Yesufu and 35 others were recently conferred with national honours by President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>The list, which surfaced online on Friday, sparked heated debates, particularly among supporters of the Tinubu administration, due to the inclusion of Yesufu, a well-known critic of the government.<\/p>\n<p>While the viral document contains 102 names, President Tinubu had, during his Democracy Day address to a joint sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 13, announced only 66 recipients of national honours.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the development, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, dismissed the circulating list as fake news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe story on a viral list of national honours featuring the name of Aisha Yesufu and others, credited to Leadership newspaper, is fake news. It should be ignored,\u201d Ajayi wrote in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n<p>He further clarified that the Presidency has not issued fresh names for national honours beyond those listed in President Tinubu\u2019s address to the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Among the posthumous awardees announced by the President were Shehu Musa Yar\u2019Adua, a former Chief of Staff and a key pro-democracy figure; Kudirat Abiola, wife of the late MKO Abiola and a martyr of the June 12 struggle; and Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, the former NEC Chairman who oversaw the 1993 elections.<\/p>\n<p>The honours were conferred in recognition of the pivotal roles and sacrifices these individuals made in shaping Nigeria\u2019s democratic journey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere &nbsp; The Presidency has debunked a viral list circulating on social media that falsely claims human rights activist Aisha Yesufu and 35 others were recently conferred with national honours by President Bola Tinubu.
