{"id":68012,"date":"2025-06-13T16:18:30","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T16:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=68012"},"modified":"2025-06-13T16:18:30","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T16:18:30","slug":"mko-would-have-transformed-nigerias-economy-son","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/13\/mko-would-have-transformed-nigerias-economy-son\/","title":{"rendered":"MKO Would Have Transformed Nigeria\u2019s Economy -Son"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamiu Abiola, son of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO), Abiola, has said Nigeria would have experienced significant economic transformation if his father had been allowed to govern after winning the 1993 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during Channels Television\u2019s June 12 Special Forum, Jamiu argued that Nigeria missed a golden opportunity for economic growth at a time when the global economy was booming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria would have been better because, at that time, the world itself was experiencing an international economic boom,\u201d he said. \u201cBut what did we get in return? We got a kleptomaniac as head of state. I won\u2019t speak much about (Sani) Abacha, because he has his problems wherever he has found himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jamiu, who currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Linguistics and Foreign Affairs, also accused certain individuals of attempting to erase his father\u2019s name from Nigeria\u2019s political history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wrote a book in 2015 because I came to realise that my father\u2019s name was becoming like a memory,\u201d he said. \u201cSome people wanted to bury his legacy. Like my father would say, they wanted to shave his head in his absence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His book, The President Who Never Ruled, was written to preserve MKO Abiola\u2019s legacy for future generations.<\/p>\n<p>It was not until 2018 that former President Muhammadu Buhari posthumously awarded Abiola Nigeria\u2019s highest national honour, the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), and officially declared June 12 as Democracy Day; a move many described as long overdue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Adeola &nbsp; Jamiu Abiola, son of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO), Abiola, has said Nigeria would have experienced significant economic transformation if his father had been allowed to govern after winning the 1993 presidential election.
