The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has urged Nigerians to exercise caution and consideration for others while using the roads during the Democracy Day holiday.<\/p>\n
The warning was contained in a statement issued Thursday by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Mohammed noted that the Democracy Day celebration on June 12 often leads to increased vehicular movement across the country.<\/p>\n
He warned that previous years\u2019 data show a rise in road crashes during public holidays, largely due to reckless driving and disregard for traffic regulations.<\/p>\n
\u201cRecords from past years show that public holidays usually witness increased road usage by motorists traveling to visit friends, families, and loved ones.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, such periods are often marred by disobedience to traffic laws, resulting in avoidable accidents,\u201d the corps marshal stated.<\/p>\n
He advised motorists to avoid dangerous driving habits, stressing that the road is a shared space and must be used with discipline, patience, and respect.<\/p>\n
While congratulating Nigerians on 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, Mohammed cautioned that the joy of the celebration should not be overshadowed by preventable tragedies.<\/p>\n
He also warned against driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and against wrong-way driving.<\/p>\n
The FRSC boss assured the public of the corps\u2019 full commitment to ensuring road safety during and after the holiday.<\/p>\n
