{"id":67734,"date":"2025-06-10T18:59:38","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T18:59:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=67734"},"modified":"2025-06-10T18:59:38","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T18:59:38","slug":"nscdc-arrests-12-suspected-vandals-in-fct-during-sallah-holiday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/10\/nscdc-arrests-12-suspected-vandals-in-fct-during-sallah-holiday\/","title":{"rendered":"NSCDC Arrests 12 Suspected Vandals in FCT During Sallah Holiday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Anifowoshe Oladipupo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 12 suspected vandals across various parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the Sallah holiday.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by Monica Ojobi, spokesperson of the FCT Command.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, the arrests were made by the Tactical Squad of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Unit during a routine patrol aimed at protecting lives and public infrastructure during the festive period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn view of their dogged determination to combat vandalism head-on in the Federal Capital Territory, the NSCDC FCT Command has arrested twelve suspected vandals at different locations in the metropolis during the Sallah holiday,\u201d the statement read in part.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects were apprehended in areas including Jahi, Karu Site, Utako, Wuye, and Berger\/Area 1 Road.<\/p>\n<p>Items recovered from them include galvanized iron rods, armoured cables, billboard components, and tools such as shovels, diggers, and axes.<\/p>\n<p>Those arrested include Istifani Stephen (43, Adamawa), Samson Danladi (29, Kaduna), Yakubu Thankgod (35, Gombe), and Barnabas Sobok (25, Gombe), who were caught with iron rods at a construction site in Jahi. Zayyanu Muhammad (21, Sokoto) was arrested for allegedly vandalising parts of a telecom mast at Karu Site.<\/p>\n<p>Others arrested were Sani Wakilli (55, Jigawa), Usman Dankastina (38, Katsina), Abdulahi Saidu (31, Katsina), and Ibrahim Haruna (32, Katsina), who were intercepted in Utako with tools suspected to have been used to dig up armoured cables. Sambo Abraham (34, Plateau) was nabbed near the National Hospital bridge for allegedly vandalising a billboard, while a 13-year-old boy, Umar Suleiman (Zamfara), and Musa Ibrahim (20, Kaduna) were caught in Wuye for related offences.<\/p>\n<p>FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, expressed concern over the rising cases of vandalism during public holidays, noting that the Corps has intensified surveillance to counter such crimes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese criminals take advantage of festive seasons to perpetrate their heinous acts.
