The move follows a directive from the Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako.

“We are taking this incident seriously. All involved staff are under review and anyone found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action,” Dr Muftau said. “We maintain a zero-tolerance policy on professional negligence.”

He emphasized the hospital’s ongoing commitment to quality care, revealing that regular training and capacity building for staff is a key part of operations.

Newly hired personnel are also scheduled for orientation and professional development sessions.

Refuting reports that FMC turns away emergencies due to lack of space, Dr Muftau stressed the hospital’s no-refusal policy.

“Even when we’re at full capacity, we make provisions for emergency cases. Our inclusion in the National Emergency Management and Ambulance System is recent, but our policy of not rejecting patients predates that,” he said.

Dr Muftau highlighted FMC’s support for vulnerable patients, citing recent examples where the hospital covered treatment for unconscious or unidentified individuals.

“We carried out emergency surgery on a stabbing victim without ID and treated another unconscious patient who was later reunited with family. These were covered through our indigent patient fund,” he said.

He also dismissed concerns about resource constraints, noting that the hospital is well-staffed with over 100 consultants, including three neurosurgeons and five urologists exceeding the capacity of many teaching hospitals.

FMC Abuja assured the public that findings from the ongoing investigation will be made public and urged patience as it works to maintain trust in its services.

By Adenike Lawal The Federal Medical Centre Abuja has denied claims of negligence following a viral video suggesting accident victims were abandoned at its premises, insisting all patients received timely treatment and were discharged the same day.
