{"id":67626,"date":"2025-06-09T09:59:21","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T09:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=67626"},"modified":"2025-06-09T09:59:21","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T09:59:21","slug":"ondo-bauchi-edo-top-drivers-of-lassa-fever-cases-in-2025-ncdc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/09\/ondo-bauchi-edo-top-drivers-of-lassa-fever-cases-in-2025-ncdc\/","title":{"rendered":"Ondo, Bauchi, Edo Top Drivers of Lassa Fever Cases in 2025 -NCDC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Cross Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), has revealed that five states are responsible for 90 percent of Lassa fever cases reported across the country in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In its latest week 21 situation report, the agency listed Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi as the states with the highest number of confirmed infections.<\/p>\n<p>Ondo tops the chart with 224 cases, followed by Bauchi with 185, Edo with 121, Taraba with 116, and Ebonyi with 21.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, the country has recorded 739 confirmed cases and 141 deaths so far this year, bringing the case fatality rate to 19.1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The disease has been reported in 18 states across 95 local government areas, which is a decline compared to the 28 states and 125 LGAs affected at the same point in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The NCDC continues to monitor the situation and urges states to strengthen surveillance, improve hygiene practices, and ensure timely medical attention for suspected cases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Cross Stone &nbsp; The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), has revealed that five states are responsible for 90 percent of Lassa fever cases reported across the country in 2025.
