{"id":67367,"date":"2025-06-05T10:47:04","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T10:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=67367"},"modified":"2025-06-05T10:47:04","modified_gmt":"2025-06-05T10:47:04","slug":"pdp-faction-hails-okpebholo-for-enhancing-security-in-edo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/06\/05\/pdp-faction-hails-okpebholo-for-enhancing-security-in-edo\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP Faction Hails Okpebholo for Enhancing Security in Edo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Onyeanya Ebere<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Dan Orbih-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Edo State has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his proactive efforts in improving the state\u2019s security architecture.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Wednesday in Benin, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Bob-Manuel Umoru, acknowledged a significant decline in criminal activities such as kidnapping, cultism, banditry, and herdsmen attacks since the governor assumed office.<\/p>\n<p>Umoru praised Okpebholo\u2019s commitment to restoring peace and stability through strategic legislative and operational measures.<\/p>\n<p>He cited the recent enactment of the Cultism Prohibition Law and the Kidnapping Prohibition Amendment Law, 2025, which prescribe tough penalties including the death sentence for convicted kidnappers and the demolition of properties linked to such crimes.<\/p>\n<p>He also lauded the procurement of over 60 Hilux vehicles and 1,000 motorcycles for security agencies, which he said has enhanced rapid response capabilities and boosted surveillance across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor Okpebholo has reorganised and empowered the Edo State Security Network, strengthening community policing efforts and ensuring that local intelligence contributes meaningfully to security strategies,\u201d Umoru noted.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, these initiatives have contributed to a noticeable decline in crime, increased public safety, and restored citizens\u2019 confidence in the state\u2019s security framework.<\/p>\n<p>He contrasted the current administration\u2019s results-oriented approach with what he described as the lax security posture of the previous government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a responsible opposition party, the PDP acknowledges the remarkable improvements in Edo\u2019s security landscape and pledges to hold the government accountable in a constructive and patriotic manner,\u201d Umoru said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, urged the governor not to relent, stressing that the fight against insecurity demands consistent vigilance, resourcefulness, and long-term commitment.<\/p>\n<p>Umoru concluded with a call for continued efforts to build a stable economy and a peaceful society, assuring the party\u2019s readiness to support policies that ensure the dividends of democracy reach every household in the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyeanya Ebere &nbsp; The Chief Dan Orbih-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Edo State has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his proactive efforts in improving the state\u2019s security architecture.
