As Abuja prepares for a series of high-profile events including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Honours and Award Night, the Eid el Kabir (Sallah), celebration, and Democracy Day on June 12, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has ramped up security measures to safeguard residents and visitors.<\/p>\n

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, on Monday convened a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and heads of tactical units.<\/p>\n

The three-hour session aimed to refine operational strategies and reinforce professionalism in policing during this period of increased public activity.<\/p>\n

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement, said the meeting focused on ensuring heightened visibility, especially at key city entry and exit points, in view of expected dignitaries arriving for the IGP\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

Key directives issued by the CP include the deployment of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), teams to sweep religious and recreational centres, intensified intelligence led raids on criminal hideouts, and a strict stance against any form of extortion.<\/p>\n

Officers have also been ordered to maintain discipline, dress smartly, and engage respectfully with the public.<\/p>\n

CP Ajao further emphasized that police personnel must steer clear of civil disputes, especially land related issues, and must not use enforcement duties as a cover for harassment.<\/p>\n

He reminded officers that bail remains free and that any violation will be met with firm disciplinary action.<\/p>\n

In addition, officers are prohibited from searching phones without proper legal grounds and are expected to be camera friendly, approachable, and prompt in responding to distress calls, with a target response time of under 10 minutes across the Command.<\/p>\n

The Command will also crack down on vehicles bearing fake diplomatic plates and encourage community policing through youth engagement programmes.<\/p>\n

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to safety and peace across the capital and called on residents to remain law abiding and cooperative in collective security efforts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
