{"id":67001,"date":"2025-05-31T16:00:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-31T16:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=67001"},"modified":"2025-05-31T16:00:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-31T16:00:10","slug":"22-kano-athletes-feared-dead-in-road-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/31\/22-kano-athletes-feared-dead-in-road-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"22 Kano Athletes Feared Dead in Road Crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Njoku Chijioke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tragedy has struck Kano State\u2019s sports community as a fatal road accident claimed the lives of at least 22 athletes and officials returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.<\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred late Friday night at the Dakatsalle Bridge in Kura Local Government Area.<\/p>\n<p>The ill-fated vehicle was carrying 35 passengers; mostly athletes, journalists, medical personnel, and sports administrators when it plunged off the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitness and survivor Ado Salisu Gama confirmed the grim toll. \u201cTwenty-two people have been confirmed dead at Dakatsalle Bridge, including the driver. Another victim just died,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Kano State delegation had returned after winning 29 medals at the festival.
