The Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries of Oyo and Osun States (AREHSPSOOS) is in mourning following the tragic death of Ms Elizabeth Olaniyan Gbenle, a 69-year-old retired Permanent Secretary with the Oyo State Government. The condolence message, signed by the association’s chairman, Chief Bisi Adesola, expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Ms Gbenle.<\/p>\n
The shocking incident occurred at her residence along All Saints College Road, Idi Ishin, off NIHORT area of Ibadan, between Thursday and Friday last week. Reports suggest that Ms Gbenle was gruesomely murdered in her home by street urchins who had previously threatened her life. The assailants allegedly tied her hands and legs, strangulating her in the process. Tragically, her only surviving daughter, a medical doctor, was left behind.<\/p>\n
The condolence message, conveyed through the WhatsApp platform of AREHSPSOOS, expressed the association’s deepest regrets, highlighting Ms Gbenle’s loyalty and dedication to the group. The message also announced the cancellation of the association’s 16th November 2023 Quarterly meeting due to the unfortunate event. Details regarding the funeral services will be communicated once made available by the family.<\/p>\n
Investigations by the Oyo State Police Command are already underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder. Prior to her death, Ms Gbenle had reported threats to her life by some hoodlums who frequently smoked marijuana near her residence. The attack occurred a day after her maid had left, indicating a possible orchestrated act.<\/p>\n
