{"id":66750,"date":"2025-05-28T05:15:17","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T05:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=66750"},"modified":"2025-05-28T05:38:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T05:38:07","slug":"childrens-day-ban-flavoured-tobacco-e-cigarettes-by-minors-parents-urge-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/28\/childrens-day-ban-flavoured-tobacco-e-cigarettes-by-minors-parents-urge-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Children&#8217;s Day: Ban Flavoured Tobacco, E-Cigarettes by Minors, Parents Urge FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As Nigeria marks the 2025 Children\u2019s Day, concerned parents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have called on the Federal Government to urgently ban the sale and use of flavoured tobacco and e-cigarettes by minors.<\/p>\n<p>The parents raised alarm over the increasing accessibility and use of these products by underage children, warning that the trend threatens the future and health of the next generation.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during events to commemorate Children&#8217;s Day, the parents noted that the colourful packaging, sweet flavours, and online promotion of these products are designed to appeal to children, making them dangerously attractive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur children cannot learn or thrive in school if they\u2019re battling addiction,\u201d said a mother of three from Gwarinpa. \u201cThese flavoured vapes and tobacco products are undermining their health and future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Comfort Shamaki, a trader and mother of four, recounted seeing minors openly purchase such items at Garki Market. \u201cThey smell like sweets and are sold next to snacks.
