{"id":66163,"date":"2025-05-21T03:22:18","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T03:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=66163"},"modified":"2025-05-21T03:22:18","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T03:22:18","slug":"fct-moves-to-light-up-dark-expressway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/21\/fct-moves-to-light-up-dark-expressway\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Moves to Light Up Dark Expressway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adewunmi Oluwaseun\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To boost road safety and modernise city infrastructure, the Federal Capital Territory Executive Committee has approved a major upgrade of the streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway.<\/p>\n<p>The 14-kilometre stretch, also known as Ring Road One, runs from Maitama to Gudu and has remained in darkness for years due to aging and ineffective lighting.<\/p>\n<p>Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, made the announcement after the committee\u2019s fourteenth meeting chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe expressway was completed between 2005 and 2006, and the lights installed back then are now obsolete,\u201d Dauda said. \u201cMost sections are dark at night, posing security and safety risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He revealed that a hybrid street lighting system would be deployed to illuminate the busy road, making it safer and more motorable after dark.<\/p>\n<p>The contract is one of seven memos submitted by the FCDA, with a total of nine projects approved by the committee to support infrastructure growth across the capital.<\/p>\n<p>Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Chidi Amadi, said the approvals reflect government\u2019s commitment to upgrading Abuja and improving the living conditions of its residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adewunmi Oluwaseun\u00a0 To boost road safety and modernise city infrastructure, the Federal Capital Territory Executive Committee has approved a major upgrade of the streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway.
