{"id":66123,"date":"2025-05-20T16:22:20","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T16:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=66123"},"modified":"2025-05-20T16:22:20","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T16:22:20","slug":"customs-intercepts-contraband-worth-over-n110-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/20\/customs-intercepts-contraband-worth-over-n110-million\/","title":{"rendered":"Customs Intercepts Contraband Worth Over N110 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Njoku Chijioke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone D, has intercepted smuggled goods valued at more than N110 million within a one-month operation from April 20 to May 20.<\/p>\n<p>Among the confiscated items are 11,200 litres of petrol, 192 bales of used clothing, 140 cartons of pasta, 125 pairs of jungle boots, 47 bags of foreign rice, and 9.4 kilogrammes of pangolin scales.<\/p>\n<p>Comptroller Abubakar Umar, who announced the development, praised the professionalism and vigilance of his officers, noting a marked decline in smuggling activities in the region.<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated the service\u2019s resolve to protect Nigeria\u2019s economy and secure its borders.<\/p>\n<p>The pangolin scales, classified as endangered wildlife products, will be handed over to the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) for further action.<\/p>\n<p>The seized petrol is set to be auctioned, with all proceeds paid into the federation account.<\/p>\n<p>Comptroller Umar reaffirmed the unit\u2019s determination to sustain its crackdown on economic saboteurs and called on the public to support lawful trade practices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Njoku Chijioke The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone D, has intercepted smuggled goods valued at more than N110 million within a one-month operation from April 20 to May 20.
