{"id":66091,"date":"2025-05-20T12:25:17","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T12:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=66091"},"modified":"2025-05-20T12:25:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T12:25:17","slug":"angry-workers-storm-finance-ministry-over-unpaid-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/20\/angry-workers-storm-finance-ministry-over-unpaid-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"Angry Workers Storm Finance Ministry Over Unpaid Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tensions rose in Abuja on Monday as irate workers of the Federal Ministry of Finance shut down activities at the ministry\u2019s headquarters, demanding immediate payment of their overdue entitlements and improved welfare.<\/p>\n<p>The protest, led by members of the Trade Union Congress, brought operations to a halt as both senior and junior staff blocked access to the building.<\/p>\n<p>They arrived early, singing solidarity songs and holding placards that read \u201cPay Our Allowances Now\u201d and \u201cWe Deserve Dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Union leaders accused the ministry of ignoring repeated appeals to address issues such as unpaid promotion arrears, hazard allowances, and other statutory benefits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have exhausted all civil means. Letters have been written, meetings held, but nothing has changed,\u201d said a union representative. \u201cWe will remain here until our demands are met.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The protest disrupted the day\u2019s official activities, leaving many visitors stranded and some staff unable to access their offices.<\/p>\n<p>Security personnel were stationed around the premises to maintain order.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the protest, a spokesperson for the ministry confirmed awareness of the workers\u2019 complaints and assured that steps are being taken to resolve the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is reviewing the claims and is committed to addressing all valid entitlements,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the assurance, the protesters vowed to continue their action until they see real progress, not just promises.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstration reflects a rising tide of frustration among federal workers across various ministries, as economic pressures continue to weigh heavily on public service operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal Tensions rose in Abuja on Monday as irate workers of the Federal Ministry of Finance shut down activities at the ministry\u2019s headquarters, demanding immediate payment of their overdue entitlements and improved welfare.
