Nigerian pastor and televangelist Timothy Omotoso has been deported from South Africa, despite being cleared of rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking charges in April.<\/p>\n
Omotoso, founder of Jesus Dominion International, was escorted by immigration officials to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Sunday and placed on a flight back to Nigeria.<\/p>\n
South Africa\u2019s Department of Home Affairs declared him an \u201cundesirable person,\u201d banning him from re-entry for at least five years.<\/p>\n
His legal battles began in 2017, with accusations from several women who had once been part of his ministry.<\/p>\n
Although the Eastern Cape High Court found him and two co-accused not guilty, Home Affairs insists his continued stay violated immigration laws.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis classification bars him from re-entering South Africa for five years,\u201d said Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza. \u201cHe may seek a review at the end of that period under the Immigration Act.\u201d<\/p>\n
Omotoso\u2019s deportation has reignited public debate. Gender rights advocates have criticized the outcome, viewing it as a missed chance for justice.<\/p>\n
The Justice Ministry has since ordered a review of the case’s prosecution, citing lapses in handling sensitive matters involving gender-based violence.<\/p>\n
His removal also reflects rising immigration enforcement in South Africa.<\/p>\n
