{"id":65889,"date":"2025-05-17T04:37:44","date_gmt":"2025-05-17T04:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65889"},"modified":"2025-05-17T04:37:44","modified_gmt":"2025-05-17T04:37:44","slug":"bua-promises-drop-in-food-prices-warns-hoarders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/17\/bua-promises-drop-in-food-prices-warns-hoarders\/","title":{"rendered":"BUA Promises Drop in Food Prices, Warns Hoarders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Samuel Adeola<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has declared that food prices across Nigeria, especially rice, will continue to fall as the company releases massive stockpiles into the market.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Rabiu blamed past price surges on hoarders who tried to manipulate supply.<\/p>\n<p>He warned that such profiteers are now counting their losses as prices tumble.<\/p>\n<p>He praised the federal government\u2019s decision to waive import duties on key food items like rice, maize, wheat, and sorghum, saying it is already helping stabilize the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFood prices are coming down and we are working hard to support the president\u2019s efforts,\u201d Rabiu said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, a 50 kilogram bag of rice sold for up to N100,000. With BUA\u2019s fresh supply and a clampdown on hoarding, Rabiu promised prices will not rise further.<\/p>\n<p>He also responded to concerns about cement costs, blaming the naira\u2019s fall and rising gas bills.
