{"id":65780,"date":"2025-05-15T12:52:01","date_gmt":"2025-05-15T12:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65780"},"modified":"2025-05-15T12:52:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T12:52:01","slug":"hope-for-health-workers-as-fg-launches-housing-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/15\/hope-for-health-workers-as-fg-launches-housing-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Hope for Health Workers as FG Launches Housing Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Ifeoluwa Odunayo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a move to stop the growing exit of Nigerian healthcare professionals, the Federal Government has unveiled a 10,000-unit housing project under the Renewed Hope Medic City programme.<\/p>\n<p>The project was launched at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja and is aimed at providing affordable and decent homes for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health workers across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Aliyu Wammako, Chairman of the initiative, represented by Mercy Iyortyer, Deputy President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, said the housing plan tackles one of the core reasons behind the rising wave of migration among medical professionals.<\/p>\n<p>To make the homes truly affordable, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria will implement a rent to own system with a six percent interest rate, repayable over thirty years &#8211; a significant drop from current commercial rates.<\/p>\n<p>With more than thirty six thousand health workers reportedly relocating abroad in the last five years, the government is banking on welfare-driven programmes like this to retain its medical workforce and rebuild a fragile healthcare system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ifeoluwa Odunayo In a move to stop the growing exit of Nigerian healthcare professionals, the Federal Government has unveiled a 10,000-unit housing project under the Renewed Hope Medic City programme.
