{"id":65724,"date":"2025-05-14T05:49:45","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T05:49:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65724"},"modified":"2025-05-14T05:49:45","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T05:49:45","slug":"catholic-church-set-to-sue-agidigbo-radio-for-unethical-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/14\/catholic-church-set-to-sue-agidigbo-radio-for-unethical-practice\/","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Church Set to Sue Agidigbo Radio for Unethical Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan is taking legal action against Agidigbo 88.7 FM, accusing the radio station of unethical journalism and reputational damage following the broadcast of a false claim by a guest alleging pregnancy by a Catholic priest.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Archdiocese described the allegation, aired on May 2, 2025, as \u201centirely false, malicious, and injurious to the integrity of the Catholic Church and her clergy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The guest, Kate Odjegba, claimed on the programme that a priest within the Archdiocese impregnated her.<\/p>\n<p>However, multiple certified medical tests have since confirmed she was never pregnant, while police investigations had earlier dismissed similar allegations she made elsewhere as baseless and influenced by mental health issues.<\/p>\n<p>The Church said Ms. Odjegba only approached the priest once to solicit financial help and had no other interaction with him.<\/p>\n<p>Claims of text messages and repeated sexual encounters were also dismissed as fabricated.<\/p>\n<p>Following the broadcast, representatives of the Archdiocese met with Agidigbo FM&#8217;s management and Ms. Odjegba, during which a jointly agreed pregnancy test again confirmed she was not pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these findings, the Church expressed dismay that Agidigbo FM aired the accusation without basic fact-checking or due diligence, choosing sensationalism over truth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thirst for cheap publicity and the rush to publicize scandal without verification has caused considerable reputational harm,\u201d said Rev. Fr.
