{"id":65626,"date":"2025-05-12T10:39:07","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T10:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65626"},"modified":"2025-05-12T10:39:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T10:39:07","slug":"ipob-declares-may-30-lockdown-to-honour-biafra-heroes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/12\/ipob-declares-may-30-lockdown-to-honour-biafra-heroes\/","title":{"rendered":"IPOB Declares May 30 Lockdown to Honour Biafra Heroes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Adenike Lawal<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has declared Friday, May 30, 2025, a complete sit-at-home day across the Southeast in remembrance of Biafra\u2019s fallen heroes and heroines.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Monday, IPOB\u2019s spokesperson Emma Powerful called on all residents to observe the annual Biafra Heroes Memorial Day by staying indoors from midnight to midnight.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the day is dedicated to reflecting on the sacrifices made during the civil war and the ongoing quest for Biafran self-determination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a solemn day for unity and remembrance,\u201d Powerful stated. \u201cAll streets, markets, schools, offices and transportation activities within Biafran land must shut down in honour of our martyrs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Awareness campaigns and special radio programmes have already begun across IPOB platforms, including Radio Biafra. Throughout May, the group is hosting lectures and tributes to rally global support and participation.<\/p>\n<p>Raising security concerns, IPOB warned residents of potential threats from Nigerian security forces, accusing them of using past memorials as opportunities for violent crackdowns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor your safety and to honour our heroes, remain indoors. Nigerian forces often target civilians on this day. Disregard this warning at your own risk,\u201d the statement cautioned.<\/p>\n<p>Transport operators and businesses have been instructed to suspend activities entirely.
