{"id":65562,"date":"2025-05-11T05:04:14","date_gmt":"2025-05-11T05:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65562"},"modified":"2025-05-11T05:04:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-11T05:04:14","slug":"fast-track-state-police-law-northern-leaders-tell-national-assembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/11\/fast-track-state-police-law-northern-leaders-tell-national-assembly\/","title":{"rendered":"Fast Track State Police Law, Northern Leaders Tell National Assembly\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Governors and traditional rulers of Nigeria\u2019s 19 northern states have united in a strong call to the National Assembly to fast-track legislation for the creation of state police as a decisive step toward ending insecurity in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The demand came in a communiqu\u00e9 issued after a high-level joint meeting of the Northern States Governors\u2019 Forum (NSGF), and the Northern Traditional Rulers\u2019 Council held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna. All 19 governors and leaders of traditional councils were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Gombe State Governor and Forum Chairman, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who presented the communiqu\u00e9, underscored their shared stance on local policing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe reiterate our full support for state police and urge the National Assembly to accelerate the legal processes required to bring it into effect,\u201d Yahaya stated.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the push for state police, the northern leaders also pledged closer collaboration with federal security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>They resolved to work with the Nigerian Governors\u2019 Forum to boost support for federal forces and to fortify grassroots security systems tailored to local realities.<\/p>\n<p>In a proactive move, the Forum will also establish joint border surveillance platforms to monitor and respond swiftly to threats across state lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will ensure a more coordinated and efficient response to criminal activities,\u201d Yahaya added.<\/p>\n<p>The gathering praised President Bola Tinubu\u2019s commitment to improving security and infrastructure in the north.<\/p>\n<p>It ended with a renewed vow by governors and traditional rulers to stand united in pursuit of lasting peace, development, and safety across the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0 Governors and traditional rulers of Nigeria\u2019s 19 northern states have united in a strong call to the National Assembly to fast-track legislation for the creation of state police as a decisive step toward ending insecurity in the region.
