{"id":65451,"date":"2025-05-07T20:32:47","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T20:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65451"},"modified":"2025-05-07T20:32:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T20:32:47","slug":"fct-moves-to-end-fire-and-gas-disasters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/07\/fct-moves-to-end-fire-and-gas-disasters\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Moves to End Fire and Gas Disasters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In a sweeping effort to curb fire outbreaks and gas explosions in Abuja and beyond, the FCT Emergency Management Department has launched two major safety initiatives\u2014the Nigeria Fire Extinguisher Control and the Gas Explosion Prevention System.<\/p>\n<p>Unveiled at the department\u2019s Asokoro headquarters, the twin programs are aimed at flushing out fake fire extinguishers, outlawing dangerous gas cylinder practices, and tightening regulation of safety equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a strategic intervention, not just a policy,\u201d said FEMD Director General, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed. \u201cWe want every fire extinguisher in circulation to be certified, traceable, and safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new system assigns unique IDs to extinguishers, alerts users when they\u2019re due for service, and targets unauthorized dealers.
