{"id":65357,"date":"2025-05-06T09:40:13","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T09:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65357"},"modified":"2025-05-06T09:40:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T09:40:13","slug":"kanu-returns-to-court-as-trial-nears-final-verdict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/05\/06\/kanu-returns-to-court-as-trial-nears-final-verdict\/","title":{"rendered":"Kanu Returns to Court as Trial Nears Final Verdict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Njoku Chijioke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has returned to the Federal High Court in Abuja as his long-running trial enters a decisive phase.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government is expected to introduce more witnesses as the case resumes, rekindling legal fireworks over charges many consider politically sensitive.<\/p>\n<p>At a previous sitting, a masked operative of the Department of State Services, identified in court as PWAAA, testified that Kanu was unarmed at the time of his 2015 arrest.<\/p>\n<p>His defense team has since challenged the relevance of the testimony, arguing that the case itself lacks merit.<\/p>\n<p>Citing a 2022 ruling which declared that no lower court in Nigeria has the legal ground to try Kanu due to alleged irregularities in his extradition from Kenya, his lawyers insist that the charges should be dismissed outright.<\/p>\n<p>Having spanned over a decade, the trial may finally be heading to a close. The presiding judge has assured that judgment will not be delayed.<\/p>\n<p>Will justice be served or deferred again?
