{"id":65034,"date":"2025-04-29T11:33:45","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T11:33:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=65034"},"modified":"2025-04-29T11:33:45","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T11:33:45","slug":"efcc-grabs-aisha-achimugu-on-return-from-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/29\/efcc-grabs-aisha-achimugu-on-return-from-london\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC Grabs Aisha Achimugu on Return from London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Patrick Idowu\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested embattled businesswoman Aisha Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Operatives swooped in around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, moments after Achimugu landed from London.<\/p>\n<p>She had been declared wanted in March over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a Federal High Court directive on Monday ordering her to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday and the court on Wednesday, her lawyer, Chief Chikaosolu Ojukwu, said the anti-graft agency defied due process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe returned voluntarily based on a court undertaking to honour EFCC\u2019s invitation, yet was picked up at the airport,\u201d Ojukwu said, branding the arrest a violation of her rights.<\/p>\n<p>In protest, Achimugu reportedly began a hunger strike, which her lawyer described as a stand for justice, calling her \u201ca prisoner of conscience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An EFCC source confirmed the arrest, defending the action as necessary to ensure compliance with the court order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe declared her wanted.
