{"id":64840,"date":"2025-04-25T15:33:24","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T15:33:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=64840"},"modified":"2025-04-25T15:33:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-25T15:33:24","slug":"ibas-seeks-more-time-to-brief-lawmakers-on-rivers-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/25\/ibas-seeks-more-time-to-brief-lawmakers-on-rivers-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Ibas Seeks More Time to Brief Lawmakers on Rivers Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok Ete Ibas, has appealed to the National Assembly for more time to present a comprehensive report on the state\u2019s troubled affairs under emergency rule.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing before the National Assembly Ad hoc Committee on Friday, Ibas acknowledged the importance of the committee\u2019s oversight role and pledged full cooperation, but cited the state\u2019s complex political and security situation as grounds for his request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRivers may be relatively calm, but the situation remains delicate and must be handled with care,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Apologizing for missing earlier invitations, Ibas explained that his absence was due to pressing governance demands and not out of disrespect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday marks ten days since my invitation. Four were public holidays, and two weekends followed.
