{"id":64722,"date":"2025-04-24T11:02:39","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T11:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=64722"},"modified":"2025-04-24T11:02:39","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T11:02:39","slug":"fct-empowers-residents-with-free-skills-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/24\/fct-empowers-residents-with-free-skills-training\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Empowers Residents with Free Skills Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Oso Abidemi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a push to tackle unemployment and boost self-reliance, the Federal Capital Territory has launched a one-week free holiday vocational and entrepreneurship training for residents of Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, flagged off by the FCT Education Secretariat through its Department of Mass Education, is a joint effort with The Potter\u2019s Wheel Foundation and the Nigerian Non-Governmental Association for Literacy Support Services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the launch event, the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, underscored the value of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition, calling it a vital path to economic empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He reaffirmed the Wike-led administration\u2019s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and praised the synergy between government and NGOs in equipping citizens for income-generating ventures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis training is more than just learning skills. It is a key strategy to build resilience, promote self-reliance and reduce unemployment in our communities,\u201d Hayyo said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr Favour Edem Nse, Director of the Department, described the training as a step toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She noted that it targets women, youths and children while helping reduce the number of out-of-school children and unskilled individuals across the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Participants will receive practical sessions in soap making, disinfectants, snacks and more, alongside modules on bookkeeping, branding and social media marketing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The program also promises post-training support to help trainees launch their ventures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not just about skills.
