The Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued a fresh reminder to landowners in Abuja: develop your allocated plots within two years or forfeit them.<\/p>\n
Mr Obinna Nkwocha, Director of the Department of Monitoring and Inspection, delivered the warning during an inspection of abandoned buildings across key districts including Maitama, Central Area and Jabi on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The move follows the FCTA\u2019s recent land reform policy aimed at curbing widespread neglect of property development in the capital.<\/p>\n
The policy mandates that landowners must commence meaningful construction within two years of allocation or risk having their titles revoked.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbandoned structures not only deface the city but also pose serious security threats as they become hideouts for criminals,\u201d Nkwocha said. \u201cSome of these buildings are deteriorating and could collapse at any time.\u201d<\/p>\n
He urged developers with valid building plan approvals to return to their sites immediately, stressing that failure to act would attract consequences.<\/p>\n
Nkwocha attributed many of the abandoned projects to poor financial planning and failure to conduct proper legal assessments before construction.<\/p>\n
He encouraged residents to report derelict structures in their communities that may endanger public safety.<\/p>\n
He also praised the current administration under Minister Nyesom Wike for its aggressive drive in infrastructure development and called on developers to align with the city\u2019s vision for growth and security.<\/p>\n
