{"id":64437,"date":"2025-04-18T12:24:59","date_gmt":"2025-04-18T12:24:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=64437"},"modified":"2025-04-18T12:24:59","modified_gmt":"2025-04-18T12:24:59","slug":"waec-drops-574-schools-over-exam-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/18\/waec-drops-574-schools-over-exam-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"WAEC Drops 574 Schools Over Exam Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Njoku Chijioke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The West African Examinations Council in Nigeria has wielded the big stick, delisting 574 secondary schools over their involvement in examination malpractices.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC\u2019s National Office, announced that the affected schools have lost their status as recognized WAEC examination centres.<\/p>\n<p>Henceforth, no further exams will be conducted at these locations.<\/p>\n<p>WAEC has also reported the sanctioned schools to the Federal Government through the Ministry of Education for additional disciplinary measures.<\/p>\n<p>The crackdown comes as 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools gear up for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, which will run from Thursday April 24 to Friday June 20.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s registration reflects a significant rise of 158,627 candidates compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Among the registered candidates, 979,228 are male, while 994,025 are female.<\/p>\n<p>WAEC says the move to punish defaulting schools is part of a broader effort to restore the integrity of the examination process and send a strong message that malpractice will not be tolerated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe credibility of our exams must be protected at all costs,\u201d Dr Dangut said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Njoku Chijioke The West African Examinations Council in Nigeria has wielded the big stick, delisting 574 secondary schools over their involvement in examination malpractices.
