{"id":64172,"date":"2025-04-13T22:08:18","date_gmt":"2025-04-13T22:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=64172"},"modified":"2025-04-13T22:08:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-13T22:08:18","slug":"fg-commits-n777-billion-to-fast-track-abuja-kano-road-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/13\/fg-commits-n777-billion-to-fast-track-abuja-kano-road-project\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Commits N777 Billion to Fast Track Abuja-Kano Road Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government has announced a massive N777 billion funding package to complete the reconstruction of the vital Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway, a critical transport corridor in northern Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the project flag off on Sunday, Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed that the funds would be used to finalise the remaining 282 kilometres of the project, raising hopes for a long overdue completion.<\/p>\n<p>The government has also set a 14 month deadline for section two of the project, awarded to Infiouest Construction Company at a cost of N525 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Originally awarded to Julius Berger in 2018 for less than N156 billion with a 36 month timeline, the project has suffered severe delays and ballooning costs.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, the cost skyrocketed to over N600 billion, and despite six years of work, less than half of the road has been completed.<\/p>\n<p>The contractor\u2019s proposal to increase the contract sum to a staggering N1.5 trillion prompted the government to revoke the agreement, settling instead on a final payout of N740 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Umahi assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu is determined to see the project delivered, noting that sections one and three, totalling 118 kilometres, have been re awarded at N252 billion, with 30 percent of the sum already disbursed.<\/p>\n<p>The minister emphasised that this renewed commitment signals a fresh chapter for the long suffering highway project, promising to ease transportation and boost economic activities across the region once completed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu The Federal Government has announced a massive N777 billion funding package to complete the reconstruction of the vital Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway, a critical transport corridor in northern Nigeria.
