In a major shake-up aimed at improving land administration in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced sweeping reforms that will impact land allottees across the city.<\/p>\n
Under the new policy, effective from April 21, 2025, all land allottees will be required to make full payments for Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) bills and related charges within 21 days of receiving an offer, or face automatic cancellation of their land allocation.<\/p>\n
The decision, outlined in a joint statement by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration, and Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, seeks to address longstanding delays in payment, boost revenue collection, and reduce land speculation in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n
In addition to the 21-day payment window, the new reforms also stipulate that landowners must begin developing their allocated plots within two years or risk forfeiting their land.<\/p>\n
The FCT Administration also plans to regularize land documents previously issued by Area Councils, while moving to issue titles for mass housing estates where occupants have not made payments for several years.<\/p>\n
This overhaul aims to streamline land management in the FCT, ensuring that allocated lands are properly utilized and that the city\u2019s growth remains orderly and sustainable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
